On weekday afternoons from two to five
and weekends in the fall
the third car from the front
on every westbound train
serves cake.

Cake with white sprinkles
and best friends
constantly licking it.
It’s the most disgusting thing you ever saw!
The cake car.

I make a point of taking
the first train after five
to avoid hearing the children
discuss whom they’d like to kill.

Jordan Davis's third book, Yeah, No, was published by MadHat in 2023. Recent poems have appeared in The Canary, Oversound, The Pi Review, and Delicate Emissions; new work is coming soon in The Fortnightly Review, The Bayou Review, and in a micro-chap from sider0xylon. After many years as a train/subway rider, he now commutes by bus.
